TikTok abruptly shut itself down to U.S. users Saturday, minutes before a nationwide ban took effect—but President-elect Donald Trump urged tech companies on Sunday “not to let TikTok stay dark,” announcing he’ll allow TikTok to return when he takes office Monday by extending a deadline for China-based owner ByteDance to sell the app.
TikTok now greets users with a popup saying it is “working to restore our service in the U.S. as soon as possible”—but the message no longer praises Trump for promising to “work with” the platform, after drawing some criticism.
